3 Easy Ways to Get Healthy by Staying Hydrated

One of the important things about becoming more healthy is staying properly hydrated.

Proper hydration is important to optimal health. It’s necessary to stay hydrated in order to support almost every system in your body.

Drinking water also helps you feel more full, so you don’t feel like eating as much…this is really important if you are trying to lose or maintain a healthy body weight.

Here are some tips to ensure you stay hydrated and in optimal health.

  1. Make water easily accessible.

We are all are creatures of habit. If something is easily accessible, we are more likely to use it.

Do you have a coworker who has a clear glass bowl of candy on their desk? It’s a fact that a clear bowl of candy gets consumed more quickly than a dark bowl that’s not see-through.

When we see candy, we eat more candy. This is also true of water. While most of us have easy access to water everywhere we go, having a water bottle that we can refill and drink from makes it even more likely that we will follow through.

You need to choose a water bottle that fits your lifestyle. There are endless options from glass, plastic, or metal in a wide variety of sizes. There is no one correct solution when it comes to picking a water bottle. Simply pick one that appeals to you and fits your lifestyle.

My husband and I use 32 ounce Nalgene bottles. They are dishwasher safe and totally indestructible. They are also great for keeping track of how much water you drink…which leads me to tip number two.

  2. Keep Track of Your Water Consumption

In order to make sure you are following through and drinking enough water each day, you should keep track of your consumption. You can use a sheet of paper to track your water consumption, or an online tool or app on your phone.

My husband’s water consumption goal is at least 1 gallon of water per day. His Nalgene bottle holds one quart, so he knows he needs to start the day with a full bottle, and refill his bottle at 10 AM, 2 PM, and at 4PM. Then for good measure, he usually fills it again in the evening making sure he’s gotten all his water in for the day.

Simply find a method that works best for you, and then follow through with it.

  3. Add Flavor

Another great way to help yourself stay hydrated is adding some flavor to your water. A great way to do this is to try some infused water recipes. Pinterest is a great source for infused water recipes and instructions. You can also try making your own recipes. Experiment with cucumbers, limes, lemons, strawberries, pineapple…there are endless combinations.

My husband does this every single day. He adds 1-2 sliced limes to his water bottle every day to give it a citrus flavor.

You can also add nutritional products that add flavor, as well as a bringing nutritional supplementation. This is a great way to add extra flavor and energy to your water. Products like these are packed with nutrients that help keep you energized, support your immune system, and help you recover after a hard workout.

Staying hydrated is a great start to improving and optimizing your health. By doing so, you are supporting nearly every system in your body, as well as curbing the temptation to eat unhealthy snacks.
